Types of NEET Counseling?

After successfully clearing the NEET examination, candidates must participate in a structured
counseling process to secure admission into medical and dental colleges across India. The
counseling is primarily divided into two main categories:

  1. All India Quota (AIQ) Counseling:
o Conducted by: Medical Counseling Committee (MCC).
o Scope: Covers 15% of seats in government medical and dental colleges nationwide. Additionally, it includes 100% of seats in deemed and central universities, ESIC, AFMC, AIIMS, and JIPMER institutions.
o Eligibility: Open to candidates from all states and union territories, except for Jammu & Kashmir, as they do not participate in the AIQ scheme.
o Rounds: Typically involves multiple rounds, including Round 1, Round 2, Mop-Up Round, and Stray Vacancy Round.
  2. State Quota Counseling:
o Conducted by: Respective state counseling authorities.
o Scope: Accounts for 85% of seats in government medical and dental colleges within the state. Also encompasses 100% of seats in private unaided/aided minority/non-minority medical and dental institutes in the state.
o Eligibility: Primarily reserved for candidates who are domiciled in the
respective states. Each state may have its own set of eligibility criteria,
    reservation policies, and counseling procedures.

It’s crucial for candidates to stay updated with the official counseling schedules and
procedures announced by the MCC for AIQ seats and by the respective state authorities for
state quota seats. Timely registration and participation in the counseling sessions are essential
steps toward securing a seat in a preferred medical or dental college.
